West Seattle is way more than just one giant neighborhood. It encompasses a large area and is comprised of more than 23 distinct areas, each with their own special history and vibe.
“The Junction” is the main business area of West Seattle, with shops, restaurants and other businesses lining California Ave SW. Our Windermere office in West Seattle is located at this busy junction area in a building that housed the old JC Penny store. There are two other major junctions; the Admiral Junction in the northern part of the peninsula at California Avenue SW and SW. Admiral Way, and the Morgan Street Junction at the southern end where Fauntleroy Way SW, S.W. Morgan Street, and California Avenue SW intersect.
There are lots of beautiful parks in West Seattle, with the most popular being Alki Beach northern waterfront, and Lincoln Park, also on the water. If you’re looking for amazing views, check out the Emma Schimtz Overlook or Jack Block Park.
The West Seattle Golf Course, West Seattle Stadium and Camp Long Outdoor Learning Center are found in the middle of the peninsula with unique opportunities to camp overnight in rustic cabins. In addition, Seattle Parks and Recreation maintains Community Centers (Alki, Delridge, and Hiawatha), and the Coleman and SouthWest pools. There is also a historic bath house on Alki Beach as well as the Dakota Place Park with its restored light station.
Homes in the area are a mix of early-20th-century Craftsman homes, mid-rise condos on the beach, new townhomes, 1940’s charmer and brand-new apartments. The area has seen property values increase and the Delridge neighborhood was just listed by Zillow as the neighborhood that will see the most rise in home values in 2017.
